Maybe We've Been Using AI the Hard Way?

One of the more encouraging things happening with AI right now is that it's getting easier to use without sitting down and carefully typing everything out.

You can increasingly just... talk.

ChatGPT can now work with connected tools through Voice

ChatGPT Voice can now use supported apps and plugins while you're speaking. In its Work mode, you can ask it to start creating a document, presentation or spreadsheet, and an unfinished task can keep going after the voice conversation ends.

For beginners, this removes a pretty big hurdle.

You don't have to build the perfect prompt. Talk through what you need, ask AI to repeat back what it understood, correct anything it missed, and then let it help with the next step.

I started using Wispr Flow, and it's been a little life-changing

Wispr Flow lets you speak into practically any text field: email, messages, documents, ChatGPT, and tons of other apps.

But it goes way beyond regular dictation. It removes filler words, adds punctuation, and understands when you correct yourself halfway through a sentence. The result is surprisingly clean while still sounding like you.

I started using it a couple days ago, and honestly, it's already changing the way I work.

Instead of stopping to type every thought, I just talk it out and keep moving. It feels less like using another AI tool and more like removing a layer of friction from almost everything I do.

AI is becoming a more useful learning tool

ChatGPT now offers interactive flashcards on all plans. Upload your own notes, ask it to create a study set, then practice the cards again later.

The important part is starting with trusted material. Give AI your notes or source document, then ask it to explain, summarize or quiz you. That's usually way more useful than asking it to teach you something entirely from memory.

More convenience also means more access

Gemini added connections with tools including Adobe, Squarespace, Webflow, Peloton and several project-management apps. ChatGPT is also working more directly with financial and health information.

Incredibly useful, but before connecting anything, ask:

  • What information can AI see?
  • What actions can it take?
  • Will it ask before doing something important?
  • Can I disconnect it later?

One prompt to try this week

I'm going to talk through this idea naturally. First, summarize what you think I'm trying to accomplish. Then ask me up to three questions before helping me turn it into something useful. Keep the result clear, concise and in my voice.

The big takeaway

Using AI well might have less to do with writing perfect prompts, and more to do with finding the most natural way to communicate what you need.

For a lot of us, that means just talking.
